These are called Shardiya since this Navratri honors the devi of learning, Sharda. Therefore, one must devote herself to the mother goddess in order to learn. Also, the nine days represent three basic qualities of our existence: tamas, Sattva and rajas. During these nine days, people worship the nine forms of the Mother Goddess. The forms include Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmacharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandamata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kaalratri, Maa Mahagauri, and Maa Siddhidatri. Each form holds significance and represents different aspects of the goddess. Devotees offer prayers and seek blessings from these forms of Mother Goddess.
